Biography

Attorney Heather McDonald

Heather McDonald is a Texas attorney with a diverse legal background encompassing civil litigation, personal injury law, legal advocacy, and access to justice. Raised in Conroe, Texas, Heather earned her Bachelor of Arts in Government from The University of Texas at Austin in 2001 before attending Texas Tech University School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor in 2006.

During law school, Heather participated in the Innocence Project Clinic and served on the Administrative Moot Court team. She also attended a summer law program at the Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico, studying comparative constitutional law and earning the CALI Award for academic achievement in NAFTA. Her commitment to public service extended beyond the classroom through her involvement in the Women’s Caucus and Equal Justice Society and her role as Director of the Student Public Interest Initiative, where she helped raise funds for scholarships supporting law students pursuing careers serving underserved communities.

Admitted to practice law in Texas in 2006, Heather has built her legal career throughout the Texas Panhandle and West Texas. Her experience spans legal research, case development, litigation, mediation, settlement negotiation, and client advocacy. Throughout her career, she has represented individuals from diverse backgrounds, helping them navigate complex legal challenges and pursue meaningful resolutions.

Following law school, Heather served as a Staff Attorney with the Innocence Project of Texas, where she supervised law students conducting actual innocence investigations. She subsequently served as a Staff Attorney and Assistant Director at Legal Aid Society of Lubbock, providing legal representation, advice, and referrals to low-income individuals while developing substantial experience in litigation, mediation, and negotiation. From 2020 to 2024, she continued her commitment to access to justice as a Staff Attorney with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas.

In 2024, Heather transitioned from nonprofit legal services to private practice, joining Braker White to focus on personal injury law. In her current role, she investigates claims, evaluates cases, negotiates settlements during the pre-litigation phase, and assists in preparing cases for litigation. Drawing on her extensive legal advocacy background, Heather approaches each matter with careful analysis, strategic planning, and a focus on achieving fair and favorable outcomes. She recognizes the value of resolving disputes efficiently through negotiation and mediation while remaining prepared to advance her clients’ interests through litigation when necessary.

Heather is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Permian Basin Trial Lawyers Association, South Plains Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Association for Justice.

Heather takes a practical, client-focused approach to her work, grounded in the belief that effective legal representation requires more than knowledge of the law. She values attentive listening, clear communication, and a strong commitment to protecting her clients’ interests and helping them achieve the best possible outcomes.
